Drug Education

​Objectives

  1. Increase knowledge and awareness about substance abuse

  2. Reduce the stigma surrounding substance use and addiction

  3. Learn about resources offered at the University of Florida and the National Level to help you or a loved one with substance abuse.

​Why is this important?

  • By using drugs, college students might experience:

    • Lower grades​

    • Memory loss

    • Sadness

    • Depression

    • Missing classes

​Facts

  • Addiction is highly treatable and can be managed successfully through research-based methods.

  • Research-based programs have been proven to prevent drug use in youth.

  • Substance abuse does not discriminate. No one, regardless of whether they come from a good family or have a high GPA, is immune to drug abuse (Addiction Center).

  • Nearly 2.0 million full-time college students (22.2 percent) used an illicit drug in the past month (SAMHSA, 2011 and 2014).
